Colby Genoway, a speedy right-winger who racked up 26 goals for the Hartford Wolf Pack in his first full year as a pro last season, has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks ("entry-level" referring to the salary-restricted contract that the NHL requires for all players entering the League at 24 years of age or younger).

The Anaheim Ducks, parent club of the AHL's Portland Pirates, announced today that they have signed right wing Colby Genoway to a two-year, entry-level contract.
Genoway, 22, played his first professional season with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack in 2005-06, recording 26 goals and 35 assists for 61 points in 77 games. He finished tied for seventh among all AHL rookies in goals and eighth in points. In thirteen Calder Cup playoff games, the Morden, Manitoba, native recorded four goals and eight assists for 12 points, tying for second on the Wolf Pack in scoring.
The 6-0, 201-pound forward played three seasons at the University of North Dakota in the WCHA, reaching the NCAA championship game in 2005. He led North Dakota in points and assists in '04-'05, with 13g + 31a = 44 points in 42 games.

Genoway is probably getting out while the getting's good, considering the number of forwards who'll be available for the Wolf Pack this season. Even if any one of the forwards that I place among the top 4 possibilities (Immonen, Dawes, Dubinsky, Korpikoski) spends a decent amount of time up with the Rangers this year, that still leaves 14 or 15 guys who could be looking for playing time in Hartford, including the likes of Jakub Petruzalek, Greg Moore, Hugh Jessiman, Zdenek Bahensky, Rich Kozak, Dwight Helminen, Lee Falardeau, Bruce Graham, Ryan Callahan, Dane Byers, and even veterans like Wiseman and Sonnenberg (if either one or both of them signs).

One of the guys who won't be back is center Alexandre Giroux, it seems, based on his NHL.com player profile, which "CalderCup0" of HockeyBird first spotted as now listing Giroux as a member of the Washington Capitals (read: Hershey Bears). No official transaction announcement has surfaced yet, however. Giroux, a 25-year-old Quebec native (meaning he sounds really funny when he talks), tallied 32 and 36 goals for the Wolf Pack over the past two seasons, but has struggled frequently with cold streaks and other lapses in his game, and he's had the look of "career AHL'er" for a while now.
